Hormone Optimization Therapy in Houston, TX
Feeling off and can't quite explain why? Your hormones may be the reason.
Hormonal imbalance is one of the most common and most overlooked contributors to how people feel day to day. Fatigue that doesn’t improve with sleep. Weight changes that don’t respond to diet and exercise. Low libido, mood shifts, brain fog, poor recovery, and a general sense that your body isn’t working the way it used to. These aren’t just signs of getting older. They’re often signs that your hormones need attention.
At FACE/FIT, hormone optimization is part of our broader approach to wellness: the inside-out work that supports how you look by first addressing how you feel. We offer lab-based hormone evaluation and personalized hormone replacement therapy for patients experiencing symptoms of perimenopause, menopause, low testosterone, thyroid-related concerns, and related hormonal imbalances.
Every treatment plan at FACE/FIT starts with lab work. We don’t guess at what your hormones are doing. We measure them, interpret the results in context with your symptoms, and build a protocol around what your body actually needs.
What We Treat
Perimenopause and menopause: The hormonal transition leading into and through menopause is one of the most significant physiological shifts a woman’s body undergoes. Estrogen and progesterone decline, often unevenly and unpredictably, producing a range of symptoms that vary widely between patients: hot flashes, night sweats, sleep disruption, mood changes, brain fog, vaginal dryness, joint pain, and accelerated skin aging are all common. Weight redistribution, particularly around the abdomen, is another frequent complaint that doesn’t respond to the same lifestyle interventions that worked before.
Hormone replacement therapy addresses the underlying cause of these symptoms by restoring hormones to levels that support normal function. Modern HRT has a significantly different safety profile from the protocols that generated concern decades ago, and the current evidence strongly supports its benefits for the majority of perimenopausal and menopausal women when appropriately prescribed and monitored.
Low testosterone (men and women): Testosterone declines with age in both sexes, but the effects are often underrecognized in women and undertreated in men. Low testosterone in men produces fatigue, reduced muscle mass and strength, weight gain, low libido, mood changes, and cognitive decline. In women, low testosterone contributes to low libido, fatigue, reduced motivation, and difficulty building or maintaining muscle. Both groups respond well to testosterone replacement when it’s appropriately dosed and monitored.
Fatigue: Persistent fatigue is one of the most common symptoms driving patients to our hormone evaluation. When fatigue doesn’t respond to adequate sleep, it’s worth looking at the hormonal contributors: thyroid function, testosterone, estrogen, progesterone, and cortisol all affect energy levels significantly. Lab work identifies which, if any, are contributing.
Low libido: Reduced sex drive is common and rarely talked about openly. It’s also frequently hormonal in origin and frequently treatable. Both estrogen and testosterone play roles in libido for women; testosterone is the primary driver for men. Addressing the underlying hormonal cause produces better outcomes than treating the symptom in isolation.
Weight changes: Hormonal imbalances contribute to weight gain and make weight loss significantly harder. Estrogen deficiency promotes abdominal fat accumulation. Low testosterone reduces lean muscle mass and metabolic rate. Thyroid dysfunction affects metabolic efficiency. Identifying and addressing these hormonal contributors is often the piece that’s been missing from a patient’s weight management efforts.
Thyroid-related concerns: We screen thyroid function as part of a comprehensive hormone evaluation. Many patients with hormonal symptoms have thyroid function that’s technically within normal range but not optimal for how they feel. We address subclinical thyroid concerns within our scope and refer patients with true thyroid pathology to endocrinology for specialized management. This collaborative approach ensures you get the right level of care for what’s actually going on.
How It Works
Hormone optimization at FACE/FIT follows a structured process designed to make sure any treatment prescribed is genuinely appropriate for you.
Initial consultation and lab work: Your first appointment includes a comprehensive consultation and a blood panel that evaluates your current hormone levels across the relevant markers: estrogen, progesterone, testosterone, thyroid function, DHEA, and others based on your symptoms. Lab work is required before any prescription is written. We work from actual data, not assumptions.
Interpretation and protocol development: Your provider reviews your lab results in context with your symptoms and health history. This is where the clinical judgment comes in: hormone levels that look “normal” on a reference range may not be optimal for how you feel, and we look at the full picture rather than just flagging out-of-range values.
Prescription and treatment: Prescriptions are written for FDA-approved hormone therapies through Empower Pharmacy, a compounding pharmacy that allows for personalized formulations dosed specifically to your needs. Compounded hormone therapy allows more precise dosing than standardized commercial formulations, which is particularly valuable for patients who need specific ratios or delivery methods.
Monitoring: Hormone optimization isn’t a set-and-forget prescription. Quarterly blood work tracks how your levels are responding to treatment and allows dose adjustments as needed. This ongoing monitoring is how we ensure you’re getting the benefit of treatment and staying within safe parameters.
FDA-Approved Treatments
All hormone therapies prescribed at FACE/FIT are FDA-approved. Prescriptions are fulfilled through Empower Pharmacy, which compounds medications to the prescribed specifications using FDA-approved active ingredients. Compounding allows us to tailor the formulation, dose, and delivery method to your specific needs in a way that standardized commercial products don’t always permit.
We’ll explain the specific medications and formulations being prescribed at your consultation so you have a clear understanding of what you’re taking and why.
What to Expect
Hormone optimization is a gradual process. Unlike IV hydration or an injectable treatment where results are immediate, hormonal changes take time to express themselves physiologically.
Most patients begin to notice improvement in symptoms within four to eight weeks of starting treatment, with more significant changes at three months as hormone levels stabilize at therapeutic levels. Sleep, energy, and mood often improve first. Libido, body composition, and cognitive clarity typically follow over a longer timeline.
Quarterly blood work appointments track progress and allow dose adjustments. Many patients continue hormone optimization therapy long-term as part of their ongoing wellness routine.
Is Hormone Optimization Right for You?
If you’re experiencing symptoms of hormonal imbalance including fatigue that doesn’t improve with rest, unexplained weight changes, low libido, mood shifts, brain fog, hot flashes, night sweats, or difficulty maintaining muscle mass, a hormone evaluation is a reasonable and appropriate first step.
Lab work determines whether your hormones are contributing to your symptoms and what, if anything, should be addressed. A consultation that ends with “your hormones look fine and something else is driving this” is still a useful outcome.
Hormone optimization is not appropriate for patients with certain hormone-sensitive cancers, active blood clots, or certain cardiovascular conditions. A complete health history is reviewed at your initial consultation to confirm you’re an appropriate candidate.
Hormone Optimization and Aesthetic Treatments
Hormonal balance and aesthetic results are more connected than most patients realize. Estrogen deficiency accelerates skin aging: collagen loss, reduced skin thickness, and decreased elasticity are all direct consequences of declining estrogen. Testosterone supports muscle mass and body composition in ways that affect how aesthetic treatments look and how long results last.
Patients who address their hormone levels often find that their aesthetic treatments respond better, last longer, and look more natural. For patients managing perimenopause or low testosterone alongside an aesthetic treatment plan, coordinating both sides of the equation at FACE/FIT means both are informed by the same clinical picture.
