Neurotoxin Options in Houston, TX: Botox, Dysport, Xeomin & Daxxify

If you’re already familiar with Botox and want to understand your options, you’re in the right place. FACE/FIT offers the full range of FDA-approved neurotoxins – Botox, Dysport, Xeomin, and Daxxify – and our providers don’t default to one product for everyone. We choose based on your facial anatomy, your treatment history, your goals, and sometimes just what your muscles respond to best.

This page explains the differences between each product so you can come into your consultation with some background. That said, the recommendation always comes from looking at your face, not a checklist.

How Neurotoxins Work

All four products work the same way: they temporarily block the nerve signal to specific facial muscles, preventing those muscles from contracting. That relaxation smooths the expression lines above them: forehead lines, the “11s” between the brows, crow’s feet, and more.

The difference between brands isn’t in how they work. It’s in how fast they kick in, how long they last, how much they spread, and how individual patients respond. None is universally better than the others, the right choice depends on the person.

For a full overview of treatment areas, candidacy, and what to expect from the procedure itself, see our Botox page. This page focuses specifically on the product differences.

All neurotoxins at FACE/FIT are priced transparently. Botox, Dysport, and Xeomin are priced per unit. Daxxify is priced per vial. Current pricing is published on our pricing page.

How We Decide Which One to Use

Our approach at FACE/FIT is to start with your goals and your history. A few of the factors that guide our recommendation:

Treatment history: If you’ve had great results with Botox for years, there’s usually no reason to change. If you’re noticing shorter duration or feel like it’s not quite as effective as it used to be, we’ll talk about alternatives.

Treatment area: Dysport’s diffusion pattern makes it a slightly better fit for large forehead surface area. Botox or Daxxify tend to be our preference for areas where precise placement matters: around the eyes, lips, or chin.

Lifestyle and maintenance preference: Patients who travel frequently or just find it hard to schedule every three to four months often prefer Daxxify for its longer duration.

First-time patients: We typically start with Botox for new patients unless there’s a specific reason to do otherwise. It gives us the most predictable baseline to work from.

None of this is a rigid formula. The real answer always comes from looking at your face and having a conversation.

Botox

The original. Botox has been FDA-approved for cosmetic use since 2002 and has the longest safety and efficacy record of any neurotoxin on the market. It’s the product most providers and patients are familiar with, and for good reason – it’s reliable, predictable, and well-studied.

Onset: Three to five days, full results at two weeks.

Duration: Three to four months on average.

Spread: Moderate – stays close to the injection site.

Best for: Patients new to neurotoxins, anyone who wants a known quantity, treatment areas where precise placement matters.

Botox is priced per unit at FACE/FIT. See our pricing page for current rates.

Dysport

Dysport has a smaller protein molecule than Botox and tends to diffuse slightly more from the injection point. That’s not a flaw; it’s actually an advantage in the right areas.

Onset: Two to three days, typically faster than Botox.

Duration: Three to four months, similar to Botox, though some patients find it lasts slightly longer.

Spread: More diffuse than Botox, which makes it particularly well suited for larger treatment areas like the forehead.

Best for: Patients who want a faster onset, anyone treating a broad area where wider diffusion is helpful, patients who feel Botox has stopped working as predictably for them.

One thing worth knowing: Dysport is dosed in different units than Botox. More units doesn’t mean more product; the conversion is roughly 2.5 to 3 Dysport units per one Botox unit. We’ll explain the pricing clearly at your consultation so there’s no confusion.

Xeomin

Xeomin is sometimes called a “naked” neurotoxin. Unlike Botox and Dysport, it contains only the active botulinum toxin without accessory proteins. The practical implication: some patients who have been receiving Botox or Dysport for years and feel it’s become less effective may respond better to Xeomin, since their immune system hasn’t seen this particular protein configuration before.

Onset: Three to five days, similar to Botox.

Duration: Three to four months.

Spread: Similar to Botox.

Best for: Long-term Botox patients who feel their results aren’t lasting as long as they used to, anyone who may have developed a mild resistance to other neurotoxins.

This isn’t a common issue, most patients never experience resistance, but it’s real, and Xeomin is a useful tool when it happens.

Daxxify

Daxxify is the newest FDA-approved neurotoxin on the market, and it’s genuinely different from the others in one meaningful way: duration. Daxxify uses a peptide-based stabilizer rather than human or animal-derived proteins, which appears to extend how long it stays active in the muscle.

Onset: One to two days – the fastest of the four.

Duration: Six months on average, with some patients seeing results lasting up to nine months. This is significantly longer than the other options.

Spread: Similar to Botox.

Best for: Patients who want to extend the time between treatments, anyone who finds the three to four month maintenance schedule inconvenient, patients who have tried other neurotoxins and want longer results.

The tradeoff: because Daxxify lasts longer, if you’re trying it for the first time and don’t love the result, you’re waiting longer for it to wear off. We typically recommend starting with a smaller amount on a first Daxxify treatment for exactly this reason.
